The Selected Works evening auction will surprise you, tease and delight the eye. The title alone, From Dürer to Balkenhol, already reveals its peculiarity and specialness. It will cover six centuries of art history, with tellings of different visual dialogues and references.
Rather than present a linear narrative, we throw open multiple chapters simultaneously. Because we believe in a shared and permeable narrative, spanning the 16th century, Classical Modernism, the development of photography, and contemporary trends. The Grisebach name stands for quality and exacting standards. But above all, it stands for our passion for art.
We want to bring artworks into dialogue with one another, to bridge contrasting worlds and weave new stories. What happens when you join Polke with Brueghel, Peter Beard with Emil Nolde, or Uecker with Schlemmer? What is our perception? What expectations are challenged? Do we achieve a harmonious pairing or do we see conflicting principles collide?
