Imagine being able to turn off the forces of gravity. Anything not tied down would fly straight off the ground. Anyone outside would quickly be lost. People inside buildings would have an advantage for the time being and would be safe - at least for a while. Anything that wasn't nailed down would float away in a straight line. The Earth's atmosphere, the oceans, the rivers and lakes would be the first things to fly out into the universe. Finally, the earth itself would shatter into pieces and drift off into space.
