The Hermann Noack fine art foundry has embodied the close relationship between art and craftsmanship since 1897. After establishing the foundry in a basement in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, Hermann Noack introduced aspiring young sculptors such as August Gaul and Fritz Klimsch to the fundamentals of their craft. The name Noack soon became synonymous with exceptional technical precision and artistic collaboration. Today, the foundry is run by the fourth generation of the family and ranks among the most important art foundries in the world. Artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Alicja Kwade, Georg Baselitz and Tony Cragg realise their large-scale sculptures here. It is a unique location that feels purpose-built for Matthias Ziegler’s in-depth documentary lens. His career began in the early nineties and has since taken him around the world as a photographer. Matthias’s reportage work highlights his sensitivity for conveying the atmosphere of the places he experiences. By deliberately pairing many of his images together, he draws attention to the overlooked or hidden details that tell their own quiet stories.
At the Noack foundry, Matthias’s visual language encountered a unique space where artistic vision and craftsmanship always have been and always will be inseparably linked.
