19th Century Art

Specialists

Main Focus

In this department we seek and present works that express the modernity and vitality of the fascinating 19th century.

In the early decade our focus is on the art of Romanticism, especially Dresden and the North German countries. In addition, we focus on the freshness and immediacy of oil studies. We contrast them with the individual, often symbolist expressions of the fin-de-siècle whose modernity is hardly surprising.

With the selected artworks, we invite you to an exciting journey of discovery through the art worlds on the way to Modernism, to sharpen the view and bring exceptional art creations into the here and now.
