Information

Bronze with brown patina, the fish gilt, mounted on a black marble base. 19,5 × 8 × 12 cm (without base) (7 ⅝ × 3 ⅛ × 4 ¾ in. (without base)). Signed and dated on the reverse: A. Gaul 1903. On the right at the back the foundry mark: Guss.v. H.NOACK BERLIN. Catalogue raisonné: Gabler 93-1. Early cast. Gabler knows only of one copy dated 1902 from the former collection of Tilla Durieux. Between 1904 and 1915 there are 24 acquisitions and 10 sales proven at Galerie Paul Cassirer, Berlin.

Collection Adalbert and Thilda Colsman, Langenberg (thence by descent to the present owner)
