Condition Report: Fine, harmonious overall appearance. The edges of each sheet without tears or losses. 11 photographs with brownish discolourations, possibly due to storage conditions. One photo with two small stains. The upper corners of the support cardboard with minuscule mounting holes. Under ultraviolet light, the white areas of the paper reflect brightly, the browned areas do not. The photographs firmly mounted by the artist onto the support board

Kurt Kranz first combined the individual photographs of the ‘Mundreihe’ series in 1930–31 whilst studying in Walter Peterhans’s class at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Later, he apparently compiled the series in varying combinations and in different sizes,as it appears. For instance, the Kunsthalle Bremen holds a 21-part sequence compiled by Kurt Kranz in 1981 (Inv. No. 97/21). In her monograph on Kurt Kranz, published in 1981, Renate Kübler-Reiser presents the series in the same arrangement, only here, the individual photographs are 9 x 12 cm in size (ill. pp. 26–27). Our copy was mounted on cardboard with silver gelatine prints by Kurt Kranz, presumably in the 1970s, whilst taking into account the original arrangement of the individual motives.
