What is an art auction?

“Kunst hilft helfen” is the motto of the art auction organized by the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg and Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO).
Since 1996, the art auction under the patronage of the respective bishop and in collaboration with numerous partners in the arts and culture has been supporting migrants and refugees.
Once a year, between 50 and 60 works of contemporary art are now put up for auction.
Prior to the auction, the works are presented to the public in an exhibition.

Who are the artists?

The participating artists come from various sectors of the art world: In addition to established and prominent figures, the lineup includes artists from various Berlin galleries, emerging artists from Berlin’s art colleges, and artists working within the context of refugee support.
The artistic projects are selected and invited to participate by a jury.

Who benefits from the proceeds?

The proceeds benefit church projects organized by and involving migrants and refugees, as well as the participating artists in recent years, these have included Asyl in der Kirche e.V., SOS Mediterrane, and youth exchanges in Neutrebbin. Church projects by and with migrants can apply for funding through the art auction. The funds are awarded by the Finance Committee for Migration and Integration.
