Information

Oil on oak. 45 x 52,5 cm (17 ¾ x 20 ⅝ in.). Monogrammed on the leeboard of the sailing boat: S . vR 1647 / on the reverse a seal: GALERIE SEDELMEYER PARIS. Catalogue raisonné: Catalogue raisonné Stechow 1975, no. 285. Regarding provenance, Stechow notes that the work was auctioned at H. W. Lange, Berlin, in around 1941. This seems to be mistaken however, as the work does not appear in the H. W. Lange catalogues from this period (with thanks to Caroline Flick, Berlin); also, it can be proven that Heilgendorff and his heirs owned the painting from 1928 onwards, only selling it to Frieda Hinze in 1949/50.. Inlaid, flat inlay of the early 20th century. Framed
