Gouache on paper (reverse of an advertisement). 31 × 36,8 cm (12 ¼ × 14 ½ in.). Monogrammed lower right: H.H. Titled, signed and dated in pencil on the reverse: Blick durch den Zaun. Höch 1929. There too the round stamp: HANNAH HÖCH NACHLASS / SAMMLUNG RÖSSNER-HÖCH.

Hannah Höch painted this gouache on the reverse of a large-format advertisement of the Quedlinburg company Carl Beck & Comp. Samenbau und Samengroßhandlung. She noted there: Dies Papier haben Kurt u. ich aus dem Makulaturkeller der Druckerei geholt. um 1929. "Kurt“ is no one less than Kurt Schwitters, with whom she was close friends..
