This work documents William Wauer’s experimental use of photography as a multi-stage process of form-finding: The artist arranged the folded paper figures in three-dimensional space, photographed this arrangement, and traced in pencil the outlines of the figures – now rendered two-dimensional – on the print. From this reworked photo template, he produced a new print; the work on display is the result of this second photographic transfer. In this way, three-dimensional sculpture, drawn line and photographic surface are merged into a new pictorial form
