Formerly collection Ernst Jürgen Otto, Celle
Variations exist in the castles at Darmstadt, Potsdam and Charlottenburg. This watercolour is likely the only version to have come relatively early into non-aristocratic ownership, namely into the collection of the lawyer Wilhelm Steffen of Wilhelmshof near Brandenburg an der Havel. See the exhibition: Berlinische Kunst aus den Jahren 1830 bis 1850. Große Berliner Kunstausstellung 1911, cat. no. 2834. Also the auction catalogue: Auktion 64: Das alte Berlin. Ölgemälde, Aquarelle, Graphik [...]. Berlin, Paul Graupe, 8.5.1926, cat. no. 399.
