Pencil, with partial stumping, on paper. 20,8 × 13,3 cm (8 ¼ × 5 ¼ in.). Monogrammed and dated lower left: A. M. 89. The drawing of a boy taking a glass of water from a pan served as a study for the gouache „Brunnenpromenade in Kissingen“ from 1890 (see Hugo von Tschudi: Adolph von Menzel. Abbildungen seiner Gemälde und Studine. Munich, Verlagsanstalt F. Bruckmann A.-G., 1906, cat. no. 674, , illustration).
