Information

Pen-and-ink drawing in black, partially washed, over pencil on laid paper with semicircular finish (watermark: HONIG). 50 × 56 cm (19 ⅝ × 22 in.). Signed, dated and inscribed in the lower right by the artist in pen and brown: Schinkel. 37 Zeichnung in Natur-Größe. At the lower margin inscribed (difficulty legibly): Ordenskranz - alte Geschichte[?] - Minerva u. Zögling bezeichnend - Planimetrie[?] Lorbeerkranz mit den Schlachten. Namen d. [ ...] Joh. Rauch. Design for the silver tureen executed by Johann Georg Hossauers in 1842, now in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London (inv. no. M.34:1 to 3-1992). Backed tear. Framed

The drawing represents a richer variant of the simpler design that Schinkel already drew around 1820 for the "Vorbilder für Fabrikanten und Handwerker".
