Oil on canvas. 35,7 x 43,3 cm (14 x 17 in.). Signed lower left: Feininger. On the upper stretcher bar signed, dated and titled with pen in black: Lyonel Feininger, 1941. “The Night Express“. On the reverse labels of the exhibitions New York 1969, Munich 1973 and New York/Montréal 2011/12 (see below). Catalogue raisonné: Hess/Feininger 411. Framed

The painting relates to the woodcut „Zug auf der Brücke" („Locomotive on the Bridge)" of 1918 (Prasse W 81).
