Lithograph on thin paper (reverse of a weather chart for Central Europe). 19 x 15,5 cm (31,7 x 29,4 cm) (7 ½ x 6 ⅛ in. (12 ½ x 11 ⅝ in.)). Inscribed in pencil at the bottom by Mathilde Q. Beckmann: This lithography was done by my late husband Max Beckmann and probably is the 1st proof print by his hand, for the series ”Stadtnacht” 1920 Title ”die Kranke” (the sick woman) Mathilde Q. Beckmann, New York 1952. Catalogue raisonné: Hofmaier 170 A. (of B.). One of 5 known trial proofs before the edition of a total of 700 copies. Sheet 6 (of 6) from the set: Stadtnacht. Text by Lili von Braunbehrens. Verlag R. Piper & Co., Munich 1921. Minor time staining, creases.
