The painting originates from the collection of Emil Bonnichsen, the favourite nephew of Emil Nolde. He was appointed by the artist to after his death represent the family in the Board of Trustees of the Ada and Emil Nolde-Stiftung Seebüll. With entry into the board Emil Bonnichsen was allowed to choose a painting..
